I received the following inquiry from a principal/LPDC member. Please offer insights as to how your schools have dealt with this in the past.
A member of our elementary staff wants to be granted 248 contact hours for being a cooperating teacher this fall (August through December). These are uncharted waters for us and we were hoping for some advice as to how to proceed.
Our local gives 30 contact hours for having a student teacher for a whole semester with a maximum of 60 contact hours during your license cycle.
ReplyDeleteAnother district close to us gives 1 equivalent other activity (EOA) per day with a maximum of 50 EOAs.
Our school system operates much like Nancy's does. We offer up to 6 CEU's per licensure cycle, providing the activity is pre-approved. Upon completion of the activity, our LPDC does require a reflection journal about the experience and an activity log where the educator records the dates and times the educator and the student teacher or transition resident educator met as well as the topic(s) discussed. We also require that the educator successfully respond to at least one of the professional development standards.
ReplyDeleteRespectfully submitted,
Sherry Lynn Riley
My districts caps cooperating teachers at 3 CEUs (30 hours) per year (1.5 per semester/1.0 per quarter). Teacher must submit an activity verification form and all activities must be related to IPDP goals.
ReplyDeleteI'm not really sure were to post this question...
ReplyDeleteI have a teacher in the district that will be renewing her professional license and also qualifies for the advance to lead teacher. Can she complete both the 5 year license renewal form and the advance form to Lead teacher at the same time to be submitted together? Will she then pay the $200 just once rather than $200 for renewal and $200 for advancement?
Advancing to a Lead Professional license removes the need to renew her five year Professional license. She needs only one license. Reminder: advancing to a Lead Professional license is completed through ODE, not LPDC.
